What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is the art of enabling and equipping individuals with the tools to move from where they are now, to where they want to be. The International Coach Federation (ICF) describes coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."
Christian life coaching involves helping individuals move from where they are now, to where God wants them to be. Christian Life coaches help individuals discover their unique God-given talents and gifts, in order to help clients find God's vision for their lives.
Does life coaching really work? Will it work for me?
Certainly. Life coaching is highly effective for individuals that are committed to making lasting changes in their life. A life coach, just as a sports coach, helps clients maximize their highest potential, focus on their strengths, while eliminating obstacles that keep the client from winning in their arena of life.
Life coaching will not work if the client isn't strongly committed to their own success. The life coach is there to support, guide, and challenge the client to move beyond normal patterns of thinking in order to achieve the clients personal goals. Life coaching is results oriented. Therefore a clarity call is the first step in order to gauge the commitment level of the potential client. At that time the coach and client will either agree to work together, or wait until the client is committed to taking action. Our ultimate goal is your success.
What makes coaching different from counseling?
Coaching is not counseling, therapy, advice giving, or legal advice. Coaching, however can be therapeutic. Coaching focuses on the future (positive psychology), helping individuals reach higher levels of fulfillment, whereas counseling focuses on the past (negative psychology).
"coaching is not for those who need therapy to overcome disruptive painful influences from the past; it is for relatively well-adjusted people to build vision and move forward toward the future." - Gary Collins
